Some requirements for fiber splicing and related applications cannot be met by even the sophisticated conventional glass processing and fusion splicing stations.

The 3SAE Technologies Large Diameter Splicing system, (LDS) provides capabilities that meet even the most demanding requirements. Powerful, high contrast optics, precision mechanical design, and extremely sophisticated image processing software allow for unmatched accuracy in aligning not only the position but also the relative pitch, yaw, and (optionally) rotation of each fiber for truly perfect alignment. An enhanced high-power version of the 3SAE Technologies Ring of Fire® handles splicing of fiber diameters from 125um to 2.5mm and more. Prisms, lenses, and other optical devices can also be aligned and spliced to fibers with unmatched splice quality.

Optional End-Face Inspection allows for theta fiber alignment of PM fibers.  The tapering capabilities enable fibers to be tapered in a wide variety of shapes. Image-based analysis software evaluates taper geometry for superb repeatability. Axial travel of the positioning stages, available to >150mm, enables creation of very long tapered sections.

An in-situ cleaver is also optionally available, to provide cleaving capability directly adjacent to the splice point.
